Pick Your Own in Colorado

August has to be my favorite month for eating. It’s a bounty of vegetables and fruits. It’s also the best month to visit farmer’s markets and roadside stands. But if you really want to appreciate farming visit a pick-your-own farm.

You might not think of life on the farm as fun, but if you only do it a couple of times a year, it’s great entertainment. And if you have kids it’s a way to remind them of where food comes from and instill appreciation for the work that goes into harvesting.

PickYourOwn.org provides a detailed list of Colorado's pick-your-own (PYO, U-pick, pick-it-yourself) farms.

A friend recently emailed me this article about picking orchards that she saved from last year. It includes a long list of orchards all over Colorado.
